Profile: Anitesh Barua
Anitesh Barua is the William F. Wright Centennial Professor of Information Technology, Stevens Piper Foundation Professor of 2001, University of Texas Distinguished Teaching Professor, Bureau of Business Research Fellow, and Associate Director of the Center for Research in Electronic Commerce at the McCombs School of Business, the University of Texas at Austin. He received his Ph.D from Carnegie Mellon University in 1991.
Dr. Barua’s research has been sponsored by both government and private organizations including the National Science Foundation, Cisco Systems, Dell Computer, Ernst & Young, IBM Research, Intel Corporation and Sprint. Over 50 of his research articles have appeared in refereed journals, conference proceedings and edited book chapters. He is an Associate Editor of Management Science, IEEE Systems, Man and Cybernetics, Information Systems Research, Electronic Commerce Research, MIS Quarterly, and the Journal of Organizational Computing.
Dr. Barua has received many awards for his research and teaching, including the William W. Cooper Doctoral Dissertation Award from Carnegie Mellon University in 1991, National Science Foundation Research Initiation Award in 1992, the University of Texas College of Business Administration (CBA) Foundation Teaching Award in 1994, ANBAR Citation Excellence in 1997, the CBA Teaching Innovation award in 1999, membership in the University of Texas Academy of Distinguished Teachers in 2000, the El Paso Energy Foundation Faculty Award in 2000, and the Minnie Stevens Piper Professorship in 2001.
Dr. Barua’s recent research on the Internet Economy (sponsored by Cisco Systems) and e-business value assessment (sponsored by Dell) has been featured in every significant media outlet around the world including the Associated Press, Atlanta Journal – Constitution, BBC, Bloomberg, BusinessWeek, Chicago Tribune, Cincinnati Post, CNNfn, Denver Post, Fortune, Industry Standard, Investor's Business Daily, Knight Ridder/Tribune Business News, LA Times, National Public Radio, Philadelphia Daily News, Reuters, San Francisco Chronicle, San Jose Mercury News, Seattle Times, USA Today, Upside, Washington Post, and the Wall Street Journal.
Dr. Barua has appeared on multiple occasions as an Electronic Commerce expert on major television and radio programs in the U.S. and abroad including ABC, CNN, CNBC, Jim Lehrer News Hour, Associated Press Radio, CBS Radio and Voice of America. Dr. Barua has appeared as an expert witness before the House Ways and Means Committee, and has briefed the staff of the Joint Economic Committee on the Internet economy.
