Online Community Marketing Manager, Bazaarvoice
MIS, UT Austin 2001

What work brought you to your job today?

After a number of internships ranging from software to consulting, I started working at National Instruments, first as an Application Developer and then later as a Business Analyst. At NI, I managed global IT projects in sales and marketing. Bazaarvoice gave me a chance to work in a field where I'm passionate and to start a new career from the ground up. It's been a fun ride!

What do you do in your current job?

As a Community Manager, my role at Bazaarvoice is to help our clients leverage user-generated content, both online and off. Consumers these days are playing an increasingly influential role in getting other consumers to buy products. I help many of the world's largest retailers bring these consumers together. I work with my clients' e-commerce and marketing teams to develop online community strategies that leverage word of mouth and social commerce.

What do you value from your MIS education?

Professors, MISA, internships, and resume and interview workshops. I felt well-prepared for the "real world" upon graduation. UT's MIS program is well-recognized in the industry.

What is your advice for current students?

Be passionate about what you do. It's never too early to start networking. Internships are a great way to discover the careers that interest you as well as those that don't.
