MIS, University of Texas at Austin 1999
What work brought you to your job today?
I graduated from UT in the last class of the century (December 1999).Right after graduation, I started a series of businesses. After hanging up my "entrepeneur" hat to get a more stable life, I was lucky enough to become an IT Consultant and work with the likes of Microsoft, Dell, Emerson Process Management, Abbott Laboratories, and Baylor Medical Health Care Systems. I came back to Austin in 2003 where I returned to Dell to work full time and have been here ever since. What do you do in your current job?
Currently, I am responsible for serving in a lead role for the Global Order Fulfillment System at Dell Inc. I lead a team of developers located around the world for this system as well as engaging our business on new changes/implementation/design/testing.What do you value from your MIS education?
The most valuable component of my education in MIS was that I was able to sharpen my skill set associated with just basic "execution." I learned to take big tasks, execute those tasks with proper engagements, leadership/resource management, and really identify/analyze the problem, the resolution options, sizing, and implementation plans towards completing any task at hand. What is your advice for current students?
Execution is key. This means knowing your targets and the assets you have at hand to accomplish your goals.
