Companies need MIS interns!
A recent Computerworld article reported that the U.S. technology industry added more than 140,000 jobs the first half of 2006, the largest six-month gain in tech jobs since 2001. Information Week reported that managers have been the fastest-growing IT job class, up 44% in five years. What does this mean for you? Internship opportunities and future career prospects!

Internship Class Goals
The MIS Internship class (MIS 353) supports students to reflect on their learning while in a professional internship of at least 160 hours during the summer or a long semester. Reflection helps students to:

  • Practice academic learning at work
  • Build on your education with professional work experience
  • Relate MIS projects to strategic business goals
  • Understand the importance of communication in the work world
  • Match career choices with particular MIS capabilities
  • Learn vital relationship of people, technology & business process
  • Work on career learning and next-steps with internship report

Sign Up for the Internship Class
Students who want MIS Internship course credit must:

  • Work with the Ford Career Center and their own network to find an MIS internship where they will work at least 160 hours over the summer or one long semester
  • Petition online to have the internship approved as a professional learning experience
  • Receive an email from the MIS Internship Coordinator that the petition has been approved
  • Register for MIS 353
  • Download the class syllabus which explains the journal and final paper requirements
  • Attend the internship orientation at the time listed on the syllabus
  • Keep a reflective journal while they are doing the internship
  • Complete the final reflective paper for the course
  • Get their supervisor to submit an employer documentation form at the end of the internship
